I suspected the hard drive, replaced it and did a fresh installation of Windows. Regrettably, I wasn't aware of this forum yet. The spontaneous shutdowns became very frequent a few months ago. However, the reason I replaced the hard drive was that over the past year or two I was experiencing intermittent spontaneous crashes, where the screen would just go black and the system would just shut off (I had disabled automatic reboot, but I still wasn't getting any actual blue screen). Since replacing the hard drive, I have only experienced one crash, which was earlier today. I reinstalled it from recovery discs about 3 weeks ago when I replaced the hard drive. I'm running the OEM Vista Home Premium SP1, 32-bit. I have a Compaq Presario F761US, about four years old. I have attached the files from the BSOD File Collection app and System Health Report. I am moving overseas in less than a week and am hoping I can figure out whether I can fix my laptop or need to replace it. First of all, thank you for any help you can offer.
